Howdy

I have a lot of interest in the Systems Analysis - particularly its applications to psychology (e.g., J. A. Kelso, Esther Thelen, etc.).

Does anyone know if any academic work is being done in the San Francisco area, or in Northern California, on systems analysis? I'm especially interested in applications for psychology, but I'd be very glad to know of any work being done.

Thanks!

    Yes--Joanna Macy.

She really knows her stuff. Try reading Mutual Causality in Buddhism and General Systems Theory, or go to her website. www.joannamacy.net She applies her work to many arenas, but her main focus is deep ecology. The precursor to the social and environmental justice work is often psychological application of systems theory for many people.

In other words, people gotta work out some of their bullshit before they can be authentically/actively concerned with helping the world. She wields the weapon of nonviolence brilliantly, and has been doing this work for 50 years. She's built a fortress of a framework and lectures globally.

I just want to say that I have this all wrong and misrepresented Joanna. Redefining the self *in context* results in psychological applications of systems theory because compartmentalization dissipates. Psychological application of living systems is redundant. World as self. Activist work, for example, changes shit in your psychology real quick when the Earth is acting through you. How much integrity with Earth and are we willing to acknowledge? Truly living in Earth gives us a stronger backbone than any human has. Deep time is key.
